Game 48: New Jersey Devils at New York Rangers

Your New Jersey Devils (19-18-10) will take the ice for the final time this season on Saturday afternoon, as they take on their cross-town rivals, the New York Rangers (25-18-4) for the fourth time this season. The Devils are 1-2-0 against the Rangers this season, taking the first meeting by a score of 3-1, then losing the next two 3-2 and 4-1. The Rangers will look to move as high as 6th in the Eastern Conference standings, depending on the results of the last two games for the Ottawa Senators.

The New Jersey Devils (15-14-10) will play host to the Boston Bruins (25-9-4) tonight for third and final meeting of the season. This is the second game between these teams in the last week. Last Thursday, the Devils shipped up to Boston in a game that saw the Devils throw everything but the kitchen sink at Tuukka Rask, but he stopped all 40 shots. Jaromir Jagr would score in his debut as a Bruin, and the Devils would fall 1-0. These are two teams headed in different directions, as Boston is fighting to win the Northeast Division, and New Jersey is fighting to keep its playoffs hopes alive.

This week, we take a look at the Devils between March 17 and March 23. The Devils started the week off with a tough 3-2 loss to their rivals, the New York Rangers. After that, however, the Devils turned up the tempo and walked away with wins over the Carolina Hurricanes and Florida Panthers to finish the week 2-1-0.

The Devils are heading down to Carolina for their third and last match up with the Hurricanes. Carolina has two wins over New Jersey and we’re all hoping the Devils don’t get swept up tonight. To add fuel to the fire, the Devils fell out of the top eight while losing their third in the a row to the Rangers on Tuesday and the Hurricanes are trying to hold onto their playoff spot after their fourth straight loss.

This week, we take a look at the Devils between March 10 and March 16, a week that saw the Devils vastly improve over their recent play. The team went 2-1-1, including a strong 5-2 win over the Philadelphia Flyers. The Devils also went 1-1 in the shootout, winning against Winnipeg, and falling to the Flyers. The Devils only regulation loss came to Montreal on Saturday evening, 2-1.

Friday night, the New Jersey Devils (13-9-5) will complete their home-and-home series with the Flyers (12-15-1) in Philadelphia. This will be the first time the teams meet at the Wells Fargo Center this season and the fourth of five meetings this year. The Devils have held the advantage at The Rock, going 3-0-0 and outscoring the Flyers 13-5 in those games.

The Devils (13-9-5) picked up their 30th and 31st points of the season against an old rival, the Philadelphia Flyers (12-15-1), in the first half of a home-and-home series. The win gives the Devils their first consecutive wins since ending their 5-game winning streak in mid-February, and is the first time the Devils scored more than 3 goals since they last played the Flyers on February 15.

This week, we take a look at the Devils between March 3 and March 9, a week many Devils fans would probably like to forget. The Devils played four games against the Maple Leafs, Lightning, Sabres, and Hurricanes and went 1-3-0. If it wasn’t for a shootout win over the Sabres on Thursday night, the Devils would have had their worst week in the season, and could be in the middle of a 8-game losing streak.

For the second time this season, the New Jersey Devils (10-7-5) will face-off against the Tampa Bay Lightning (9-12-1) at the Prudential Center, their first meeting being a 4-2 win for Jersey’s Team, with goals coming from Henrique, Kovalchuk, Greene, and Elias. Both teams will be playing their second game in as many nights, with the Devils coming off of a 4-2 loss in Toronto, and Tampa Bay coming off a 4-3 loss against the Penguins. The last time these teams met, the Devils were in the middle of their 5-game winning streak, while the Lightning were in the middle of what would be a 6-game losing streak.
