Player of the Week Winner: Dec 12 – Dec 18

Patrik EliasThe team surged during this time creating many opportunities for a long list of players to choose from. But after all was said and done how could we choose any one other than Patrik Elias. He had 4 goals this week, including the one against Montreal to take over as the Devils all-time goal scorer, passing John Maclean with 348 career goals. Elias was the Devil’s sole representative last year in the All-Star game and he comes to mind again this year. Elias is currently leading the New Jersey Devils with 30 points, (13g, 17a). Congratulations to Patrik Elias for his record and for being voted Player of the Week.

Player of the Week: Dec 12 – Dec 18

This past week was filled with great moments. Friday, the New Jersey Devils retired number 27 and then the team went on to win their 3rd straight game going 6-3 against Dallas. The team scored 18 goals this week beating Tampa, Florida, Dallas and Montreal. With that many goals scored we can choose a bunch of players for this weeks Player of the Week. However, we pulled what we thought were the three we should highlight.

Our captain, coming off POTW 12/4-12/11, had another great week scoring 3 goals and had 6 assists. Another great moment for the organization was Patrik Elias’s goals in Montreal where he broke the Devils All-Time Goal Scoring Record. This week he had 4 goals and 2 assists. With all the offense we can easily forget about our defensemen. This week we highlight Bryce Salvador because he had over 20 minutes of ice time in almost every game this week. He also made a glove save against Dallas that changed the game. He finished the week with 2 assists and a plus 8. As always, let us know if we left someone out by clicking OTHER.

Player of the Week: Dec 4th – Dec 10th

This week we almost saw it all! We saw an overtime victory, a shootout victory and a loss.  If we could just get that regulation win!  Those will come, I believe.  Here are the nominees for this week’s Player of the Week.  Think someone else did better? Click OTHER and let us know who!

Player of the Week Winner: Johan Hedberg

Johan Hedberg, Player of the Week, Player ProfileNUMBER: 1
HEIGHT: 6’0″
WEIGHT: 190 lbs
BORN: May 5, 1973
BIRTHPLACE: Leksand, Sweden

Congratulations Johan Hedberg (a.k.a. “Moose”) on being voted our Player of the Week for the week of November 28th through December 3rd! That week in particular was a rough one for the Devils, but I wanted to take a moment to focus on the positive. For when it comes to Johan Hedberg, us Devils fans have a lot to brag about.

This season, Moose is 9-5-1 with a GAA of 2.37 and SV% of .913. He has been solid for us between the pipes, both on his own and when called in to relieve Martin Brodeur. He has two shut outs this season; one against the LA Kings on October 26th and the second against the NY Islanders on November 25th.

Perhaps most impressive however, is Hedberg’s statistics when it comes to shootouts. He is the league leader in save percentage in the shootout (of goaltenders involved in 15 or more contests) with a career .775 SV%, allowing only 25 goals on 111 shots. Of the 30 shootout contests he’s faced, his record is 23-7. This season, he is already 5-1. With all of the shootouts the Devils have found themselves in so far, these are some numbers that will put a fan at ease! I can see why Johan looks so confident in these high pressure situations! He’s great at it, and he’s got the stats to prove it!

Of course, all of these stats are only as of this writing. I’m sure we can expect more great things from Moose this season. So, next time I’m at a game, I hope to hear those Mooooooooooose chants, loud and proud! Johan Hedberg has certainly earned the recognition!

Player of the Week: Nov 28th – Dec 3rd

In a week where the Devils had some difficulty and couldn’t pull off a win, there were still some players that shined for the team. We narrowed it down to the three we thought deserved it most. Think someone else did better? Click OTHER and let us know who!

Player of the Week Winner: Adam Henrique

Adam Henrique, Player of the WeekLast week’s “Player of the Week” is Adam Henrique.  While the young forward had cooled off a little bit, he picked it right back up last week scoring a goal and adding 3 assists.  He now has 5 goals, and 10 assists since being called up, and is now second on the team in scoring with 15 points, behind only Patrik Elias, and ahead of Ilya Kovalchuk and Zach Parise. That’s pretty good company and gives the Devils hope that there scoring will become more consistent once Travis Zajac returns from injury.

Congrats to Adam Henrique!

Don’t forget to check in on Monday to vote for this week’s “Player of the Week” (Nov. 28th – Dec. 3rd).

Player of the Week – 11/21-11/28

The Devils finished a busy four game stint, winning two and losing two. New Jersey had some great hockey this week, including a shoot out win over Columbus. It was tough to pick who to put in the poll this week, but we narrowed it down to the three we thought deserved it most. Think someone else did better? Click OTHER and let us know who!

Player of the Week: 11/14-11/20

This past week was a busy one for the Devils.  Playing back-to-back games against two top Eastern Conference opponents in the Boston Bruins and Buffalo Sabres, and then rounding it out with a Saturday night match-up against the Tampa Bay Lightning, it was a good test for Jersey’s team. And they didn’t disappoint winning 2 of those 3 games!

This week’s “Player of the Week” is a tough one as there were contributions from multiple players, making for some great hockey…but we won’t complain! We narrowed it down to three choices below. If you think someone else deserves it, tell us who and why by voting Other.

Vote for your “Player of the Week” and tell us why you picked that player. Stay tuned for the results!

Player of the Week Winner: Patrik Elias

Patrik Elias, Player of the WeekThe Devils Army has voted and the results are in – Congratulations to this week’s “Player of the Week” for November 7th-13th, Patrik Elias!

Elias continued his point streak for the month of November assisting on goals by Danius Zubrus and Petr Sykora during last Tuesday’s game against the Carolina Hurricanes. On Friday, in the first of a home and home against the Washington Capitals, he assisted on Adam Larsson’s first career goal and the Devils only goal that night. Then the next night in the Nation’s capital, with the Devils down by 2, Elias won a key offensive zone faceoff and fed it to Sykora again, who ripped it home to make it 2-1, bringing life to NJ as they rallied for the come from behind win!

As of November 13th, Elias had 6 goals and 9 assists and continues to lead the team in Points, with 15.  Once again, congrats to Patty!

Join us again on Monday, November 21st when we reveal who the “Player of the Week” is for November 14th-20th.

Player of the Week – 11/7-11/13

We’re a few weeks into the season and we’ve decided to start a “Player of the Week” blog to see what the fans have to say.

Here’s how it will work – each week (our week will run Monday – Sunday) we will come up with three players we think had the best week and the Devils Army will have a chance to vote for one of those three players.  Voting will begin on Monday and end on Wednesday, with our announcement on Thursday.

Now that the formal stuff is out of the way, let’s get down to business.

The Devils played three games this week, Carolina Hurricanes on November 8th and then the Washington Capitals in a home and home on November 10th and 11th.

Here are you’re choices for Player of the Week. Vote, let us know why you picked that player and stay tuned for the results!
