The Devils came of a split squad on Monday night, winning and losing one. The team was basically divided between New Jersey and Binghamton players minus one or two that either got the short or better end of the stick, depending on which game they participated. The New York Islanders defeated the younger prospects- most of whom will likely start the season in Binghamton, by a final score of 3-0.
The starters participated in the Kraft Hockeyville Challenge and defeated the Ottawa Senators by a shocking score line of 8-1. A game that none of New Jersey could see due to blackout restrictions.
After a fantastic showing from what was mostly the opening day roster, the Devils have to get back to work tonight at the Verizon Center against the Washington Capitals.
What to Watch
You can most likely expect around 90 percent of tonight’s lineup for the Devils to be on the ice when October 7th rolls around. Preseason is coming to an end soon so it’s time to let the starters all play together in order to have strong chemistry for the 2017-2018 regular season.
A big player to watch tonight for the Devils will once again be Nico Hischier. He picked up another goal and assist in the rout of Ottawa on Monday, and is showing no signs of slowing down. He’s certainly impressed the coaching staff and fans thus far, as he’s scored in every preseason game he has played.
Don’t be surprised if you see Pavel Zacha back at first line center tonight. He did an awesome job against the Senators on Monday, and has surely been the best candidate for the position at this point in the preseason. I project he’ll have the job once they open up against the Avalanche.
