Making The Case For A New Goal Song (Vol. 2)
I’m sure you’ve all heard the Devils are letting you pick the new goal song. There are so many choices available. So your friendly neighborhood General Tim here would like to help you in making that decision. Be sure to check out Volume 1 for tips on helping you make your choice.
So today’s choices are going to be Bro Hymn by Pennywise, Hell Yeahh by Rev Theory, and Uprising by Muse.
BRO HYMN – PENNYWISE
Why should I choose this song? Pennywise is one of the bigger punk-pop bands to hit it big in the mid 90s when seemingly they were coming from left and right. This song came out in 2004 and has been used by a few teams before. Most notably, it has been the Anaheim Ducks’ goal song during their recent run of success after the 2005 lockout.
Why should it be the goal song? This is already a proven goal song. It gets the crowd pumped. It’s high energy, it has a great crowd participation element with the whoa’s, and it would sound great on the PA system at The Rock

HELL YEAHH – REV THEORY
Why should I choose the song? If you’re looking for a song that can be associated with a team called the Devils, this could be it. It can be argued that it’s hack to associate a song with hell in it with the Devils (Remember the Miroslav Satan jokes?), but we all love the Hell’s Bells gongs during the opening video of games. I also like the nice touch of the gong after the goal is announced that was started this year. This song is used a lot in the sports world. That could be a vote down for the song because of its overuse, but I think that just helps make a good case for the song.
Why should it be the goal song? I’ve heard this song many times in arenas and it REALLY rocks. The sound of this song is booming and you really feel it when it kicks in with the Hell Yeahs. There’s also “Hey!” in there. I can just see everyone, after a huge goal, singing the Hey Hey Hey part pumping their fists just like we used to and love to do. And THEN, after the guy sings Hell Yeah! the WHOLE arena responds back with a Hell Yeah! of their own. Really picture it. It’s pretty cool. You want to create an intimidating, raucous atmosphere? This could be one of the songs that do that.

UPRISING – MUSE
Why should I choose this song? I had always been a fan of Muse since they broke out in the early 2000s, but it wasn’t until I saw them live in 2009 that they got a fan for life. Their live show is so loud and has so much energy is it that you walk out of there wishing you had another hour with them. This song is from their 2009 album The Resistance and it was a giant hit. It has a killer beat and has a very “ominous” sound coming from it where you think “Ut oh, stuff’s gonna go down”. Plus in the chorus of the song the lyrics go “They will not force us/They will stop degrading us/They will not control us/We will be victorious”. I think enough of us Devils fan admit we have a bit of a chip on our shoulder. There’s a mentality of Us vs The World. I don’t mind it. I like that element of who we are. And I think those lyrics reflect that in an awesome manner.
Why should it be the goal song? The line “We will be victorious” is pretty telling. It would be so awesome to have everyone singing that after a goal. I mean picture a game like tomorrow night against the Rangers. Everyone is amped to begin with, and the Devils score in the first 3 minutes of the game. You don’t think 17 thousand people saying “We will be victorious” wouldn’t help? Even a little? Or even this…singing that same line during a game that’s 3-3 and we score with under 5 minutes to go and sing that song. It would be pretty amazing. I cut this song a certain way to include that line right out of the goal horn. Then you have the “Hey!” part where we can all chant that.
Can I hear it? Uprising
So there you have it for today. Out of these three, I would choose Uprising. I think it has the best potential to be really awesome. Hell Yeahh is a VERY close second though. I know that’s a very popular one out of the gate so far too. I wouldn’t be upset if either of those won. Be sure to vote for your choice until November 2nd. Vote often as well. There’s really no limit to how many votes you can have. Our first choice will be heard on Saturday against the Rangers. Let’s make the best of it. And let’s hope to hear it like 4 or 5 times. See you all Monday with new choices.
