Summing Up The Season: My Feelings From an Unforgettable Season

Ryan and Ilya KovalchukThe 2011-2012 New Jersey Devils season will be one I will never forget. From a fan’s perspective, I watched my beloved Devils defeat two of our biggest rivals (Flyers, Rangers) and come within two wins of a 4th Stanley Cup. Off the ice, I also got my first taste of the business side of sports working and writing as a Devils Army General. It was a great experience for me to interact with other fans who are just as passionate about the team as I am. This is something I definitely want to continue doing for future seasons.

Devils ArmyOne of my favorite parts about the team’s success this year was the extreme support that our strong fan base showed throughout the year, and especially our playoff run. Devils Army was its best during the playoffs, making the Rock an intimidating place to play. I attended 21 games this year (my record was 10-9-2). I was lucky enough to be apart of many great crowds, wins, and history, while also witnessing a few heart wrenching losses on the way. My favorite game I attended was game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals vs the Rangers. When Henrique scored, the place absolutely exploded.

Scott Niedermayer NightAnother great moment during the regular season was Scott Niedermayer night on December 16th. Nieds was always one of my favorite players, and it was awesome to see his number retired in a 6-3 Devils win. Unfortunately, the Devils didn’t win the cup, but they had an amazing run, proving many “experts” wrong along the way. As a die hard Devils fan, and now a Devils Army General, I can’t wait for next season, in which I hope is as exciting and rewarding as this season was for me.
