Game Preview – Game 43: Your New Jersey Devils vs Edmonton Oilers

New Jersey Devils vs Edmonton Oilers

New Jersey Devils (23-17-2, 48 points) vs Edmonton Oilers (16-23-3, 35 points)
9:00 PM EST
TV: MSG+
Radio: WFAN 660 AM

Matchup:

The Devils will be in Edmonton tonight for their only game against the Oilers this season. New Jersey has only been to Rexall Place three times since 2001, and haven’t played the Oilers since their overtime win back on November 12, 2010 at Prudential Center.

Bounce Back Game:

The Devils are coming off a bad loss to the Calgary Flames last night. In a game in which he believed Head Coach Peter DeBoer should have given him a better chance, Martin Brodeur was pulled 7 minutes into the game after giving up two soft goals, being replaced by Johan Hedberg. Moose didn’t fair much better, giving up 2 more goals as the Devils fell behind 4-0 after only one period of hockey. They tried their best to comeback, scoring 2 goals in the second, but it was too little, too late, as they fell 6-3.

The Devils will look to bounce back tonight, against an Oilers team that is 4th from last in the NHL with just 35 points.

Hot, Hot, Hot:

Adam Henrique! Simply put, the kid has got it all. Since the young Canadian was recalled from Albany, he has done everything he can to solidify his place on this team. And last night was just another chapter on a possible Calder Trophy season, as Henrique got his first Gordie Howe Hat Trick, assisting on Kovalchuk’s goal in the 2nd, and scoring a short handed goal a little over 2 minutes later. This, after he had already fought Jarome Iginla in the first period.

With Ryan Nugent-Hopkins out of the Oilers line-up, Henrique has a chance to pass him for the league lead amongst all rookies in Points, Goals and Assists. He is one point and one assist shy of tying Nugent-Hopkins, but his next goal will give him in the lead for goals scored by a Rookie.

Projected Devils Lineup:

Parise (C) – Henrique – Kovalchuk (A)
Sykora – Elias (A) – Zubrus
Janssen – Zalewski – Clarkson
Boulton – Carter – Tedenby

Salvador – Larsson
Taormina – Foster
Tallinder – Fayne

Hedberg
Brodeur

Scratches: Zajac, Josefson, Palmieri
